day 22

today i went to m&l fabrics to buy fabric for some upcoming projects. they're having a sale right now - 20% off everything in the store until dec 9th. i came away with tons of fabric including grey lace which i'm going to make this skirt:
lace skirt |
a lot of remixers have this as part of their 30 so i see it quite often as i skim through the posts on my google reader. so when i saw the same fabric, i wanted to make the same skirt (longer length). i wanted to get fabric for a coat i want to make, but i have a lot of jackets/coats so i'm going to hold off on it. i do need more tops, but i haven't found any good patterns.

i can't believe there's only about a week left in the challenge. thanks to linda for reminding me that we're almost done. i still have some skirts i haven't worn yet. this challenge has taught me that i rely quite a bit on jeans so i should have chosen more shirts. oh well. i'm probably going to wear skirts all week.

my mom and i went to my grandma's apt to pick up her old sofa. we rearranged the living room again to fit the new sofa, which totally doesn't match the couches we already have. we also borrowed her dyson vacuum that my mom had bought her a while back. i seriously now want one. the amount of dirt that it picked up was amazing. if i showed you a picture of how much it picked up, you would be so grossed out like i was.
baked some cupcakes (chocolate souffle cupcakes with mint cream) with jessica - yummy (recipe)

day 19

this is totally what i watched when i was a kid. she and i had the same night light. all i wanted to do mix-match all my clothes and wear 2 different color shoes just like her.
after target, we went to citadel outlets where i was totally tempted with so many sales. with this challenge, i'm not supposed to shop for the 30 days. oh why did i choose this challenge during the biggest shopping discount days? there are too many sales and clothes just calling to me saying, "pick me", "choose me", "you need me". i tried on a few things and loved this one dress from the banana republic factory store, but i resisted and didn't purchase anything there.
after a long nap, i finally watched harry potter with a few friends. we went to lunch at chick-fil-a before the movie. today was a "come back" day where you come back any day in december, show your receipt from today and get the same items you ordered today for free. this is only at the long beach town center location.
jesse was SUPER excited about the deal! |

tonight was my last sewing class. i didn't finish the dress i started making in this class, but i just need to add the zipper (my least favorite part) and finish the armholes and hemline. unfortunately, i can't wear the dress until after the challenge.

i received a little surprise in the mail today:
i received a little surprise in the mail today:
i didn't get this for my actual birthday almost a month ago so i emailed anthropologie....and they sent the discount. wow! so nice of them. i really just wanted the little pouch that came with the discount card.
day 12/13/14
this weekend was busy and tiring so i didn't get a chance to post until today.
i worked at the hurley warehouse sale again, still crazy busy. i was back at the men's fleece/flannel section again, just because i'm already familiar with the merchandise and can help people better. so tiring though. i totally scored. i got a jacket that was retail valued at almost $300 which i got for free (sale price was $25, what a deal!).

we had cbf thanksgiving potluck dinner....so much food! i ate too much! i made tri-tip this year. the recipe i used came out great (1/2 less salt used).

patchwork festival was today at long beach. there weren't as many booths as i thought there would be, but lots of interesting things for sale. i came away with a few ideas for new projects.
bought these earrings from dani |
side note: sorry for the poor quality of photos. i realized after i took the pictures and uploaded them that the lens was smudged. i don't have a slr so they're not as crisp, but as tim gunn says, "make it work".

day 11
"it's beginning to look a lot like christmas...."
at least that's what i heard on the radio. what i see is a totally different thing.
today i volunteered at the hurley warehouse sale from 1130-730pm. last time i volunteered, i worked with my sister last year so there were moments throughout the day that i thought about her and missed her. last time i got to sit down and mark off the customer's items on the tally sheet before they pay the cashier. there were both busy and slow times so it was really nice. this time, i stood almost the whole time b/c the warehouse sale was crazy busy. i was in the men's fleece/hoodie section. i didn't want to work in the women's section b/c i thought i would have to work more there, but boy was i wrong. i got asked so many things.
"can you pick 2 or 3 items you think would look good on me?"
"which one is the most popular item here?"
"does this make me look fat?" (yes, these are men who asked this)
"do you think this is too small/big on me?"
"what do you think a 13 year old would want?"
after i ate dinner and got a little bit of a break, i was moved to the infant section. it was tiring and i get to do it all over again tomorrow. the incentive is nice and totally worth it, $150 in merchandise for each day i work. christmas presents for the family is taken care of and a little for me. technically i didn't pay for any of the clothes i picked out for myself so i didn't break any rules of the challenge. at least i don't think i did. :)
i did break one of the rules. i wore something that's not part of my 30 items - a hurley staff t-shirt that i have to wear for the warehouse sale. i'm going to wear this item for 2 more days during the challenge so i'm going to remove one item from my 30 - capri pants are gone from the list.

after a little bit of pestering (on my part) through emails and phone calls, i finally met with my professor from last semester to get my letter of rec. for the credential program. applications will be mailed by next week (at the latest).

day 9
where were you when you heard the news? i was at home sewing a new bag while watching korean drama on hulu when i saw this.
now my dream of being a royal is gone.
of course, i'm totally kidding about the whole "i want to be a princess" thing. nope, my childhood dream was to marry a famous baseball player.

today i got a haircut. it's been a long time since i had one, but just wanted a trim. plus i ran out of shampoo/conditioner so the haircut was necessary.
