fall festival

i finished my costume saturday just in time for the fall festival at church. the dress came out ok. i wanted to make a ruffled slip to make the dress a little more poofy, but didn't have time. oh well. i'm really happy how it turned out.
krystal (snow white) and me (alice in wonderland)

this year, i was at the basketball booth with logan. it was quite a workout chasing basketballs. i made the sign. if anybody wants it, it's available.

halloween costume

i worked on my costume yesterday for saturday's fall festival at my church. last year i was a purple crayon.

this year i had something i wanted to be. i'm not too thrilled with the fabric. i should have taken a closer look at it, but just wanted to get out of the fabric store as quickly as possible (too many people). so far i have the top done. the skirt will go on tomorrow.

pledge

i signed the wardrobe refashion pledge.

i, donna, pledge that i shall abstain from the purchase of "new" manufactured items of clothing, for the period of 6 months. i pledge that i shall refashion, renovate, recycle preloved items for myself with my own hands in fabric, yarn or other medium for the term of my contact.

weekend

highly recommended by friends, i decided to try the instant brown rice and mandarin orange chicken (both in the frozen food section) at trader joe's. it was delicious.

went to disneyland friday night with 3 guys (everybody else backed out last minute). i had a lot of fun as you can tell in the picture.

saturday, i went to the transformed conference hosted by living waters. ray comfort and kirk cameron were 2 of the speakers. honestly, i really went to see kirk, but it ended up being really good and challenging. when kirk came out, the little girl in me wanted to scream out loud, but i was at a church, not a rock concert, totally felt inappropriate at the time.

project list....

this list is going to keep growing...

yesterday afternoon, i started one project - new pillowcases. i had bought just plain white standard pillowcases at target a few years back and now it's an off-white color so it was time to change them. i found this really cute print last week at m&l.

my reindeer sleeps in the same position as i do :)
i eventually have to change my body pillowcase and want to make a new duvet cover, but will have to put that on the bottom of the list.

i started a sewing class on tuesday nights. my sewing teacher graciously sponsored both stephanie and i to take the class again this quarter. we started taking sewing classes at cypress community college less than 2 years ago when we were laid off from our jobs. the classes were a lot cheaper then and they even offered the class for free for one semester right before they bumped the price. the price is still pretty reasonable and much cheaper than taking the class at a fabric store. instead of class, steph and i, along with michelle ton, started sewing together about every other week for spiritual accountability and also in our sewing, but now we started the class and i'm back to sewing almost every week.

last night, i went to class and started working on my cynthia rowley dress. i ran out of the polka-dot fabric since i only purchased 1 yard so i went to m&l and bought the purple. of course, i ran out of the purple and now need less than a yard for the back of the skirt.

i'm making the blue dress on the bottom left without the sleeves
(maybe i'll make sleeves, depends on how it looks)

i'm also going to make a coat in class since the dress won't take long to make. i started cutting out my pattern, but haven't bought fabric yet.

one yard wonders

whenever i go to any fabric store, if i find a print i like, but don't have a particular project in mind, i always end up buying one yard of it. at the very least i can make a skirt out of it. i bought "one yard wonders" a while back and love it!

i haven't made much from this. i've only made baby bibs using their pattern so far, but have so many projects i want to try.

i'm currently working on the folklore bag. i bought the denim at the fidm scholarship store during my trip to downtown la with steph and michelle. at 3 yards for $1, it was steal. they have a small fabric wall in the back where you can purchase 1 yard/ $1, but i was able to find denim already cut for cheap. the lining of the bag is made from leftover fabric i had from making connie's bridal shower gift.
